The war that changed the Middle East
The war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2024 became one of the deadliest conflicts in Lebanon since the civil war. The conflict escalated dramatically in September 2024 when Israel killed Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike on the group's headquarters in Beirut. Israel then carried out an extensive ground invasion in South Lebanon, which led to massive destruction and displaced over 1.2 million Lebanese from their homes. The conflict left behind extensive destruction in South Lebanon, and many villages along the border were completely destroyed.
